Tailing Tidbits From The Curbside Investigator
In this episode, I talk a bit about the fine art and voodo science of
vehicular tailing. It’s general information, but important. I also
read some listener email and feedback. It’s good stuff and I love
it! Thanks everyone for both your ideas and your support.
SURVEILLANCE
- Get out of the car!
An opportunity to do some foot surveillance got me to thinking about how
easy it is to get lazy when doing surveillance. It turned into a short
commentary about leaving your comfort zone and always being alert.
Do you do something interesting in the investigative field? Would you
like to be interviewed?

Episode 5-Tips to catch a cheating spouse
Whenever I tell people that I’m a private investigator, they always
ask if I follow cheating spouses. I don’t particulary focus on this
type of work, but definately is an important part of the business. In
this episode, I go over a whole range of tips to help determine if your
spouse is in fact cheating. Alone, they don’t prove anything, but
they are a good starting point when considering hiring an investigator.

Interview with Randy Torgerson, PI
In an attempt to expand my horizons a bit, I interviewed Randy Torgerson
of RTPI. Randy and I discussed the proper use of experts and how management
of a complex investigation is as important a skill as specific investigative
technique.

Internal Investigations
This issue is about internal investigations. It’s specifically geared
towards helping management plan for a corporate, HR or internal investigation,
but it does talk about planning an investigation, so there’s a little
bit in there for everyone.

Hiring a Nanny
Here’s an interesting topic: The Right way to hire a nanny.

The Importance of Positive ID
Positive ID is a term that should be familiar to all investigators but
it may be a new idea to the general public. This podcast deals with the
importance of positive ID and how it can effect the entire investigation.

Investigative Specialties-What’s Hot/What’s Not
I found a list of investigative specialties that broke down the specific
genres by the number of firms that reported themselves specializing in
that particular specialty (have I said specialty to many times in a row
yet?). It was a small, self reporting survey, and is by no means definitive,
but I thought it was interesting and points to some possible marketing
opportunities.

-A fee…..by any other name; it’s still a lot of money for
a client.
“That’s a lot of money” is a comment I hear a lot from
private clients. Some investigators might argue that I need to find better
clients, but I think it’s important to understand why we charge
what we charge and be able to explain that to our clients when asked.
Folks, this is only my take on this subject. I’m sure there’s
lot’s of other opinions and I’d love to hear them. Send me
an email and tell me what you think. If I hear something that’s
way off from my thoughts, we’ll talk about it in an upcoming episode.
