Pinkerton National
Detective Agency Fee Notice
This is a Pinkerton's National Detective Agency fee notice that was printed
in the late 1800's. Below is a blowup of the fees:

Do these figures
seem low to you? Consider the fact that in 1880 the average wage earner
made $16.00 a week and in 2006, it was $743.00 a week. That is a 46 times
increase. $8.00 an hour times 46 is $368.00 an hour. At $12.00 an hour
that converts to about $552.00 an hour by today's standards.
